During the recently concluded PubCon Las Vegas 2009 search and social media conference Krista Neher, chief executive of Cincinnati-based digital and interactive marketing consultancy Boot Camp Digital sat down and spoke with WebmasterWorld video content producer Vanessa Zamora about the diversity of Twitter and other social media services. Neher shared at least four different successful approaches to using Twitter that were examined in the "Twitter Landscape – Hot Topics and Trends" PubCon session. Neher told Zamora about Warren Whitlock's approach to Twitter that involves being a good listener and interacting personally with followers, Dan Zarrella's less conversational and more scientific use of the social media service, and Chris Winfield's approach relying heavily on asking questions via Twitter. I met this really amazing guy in June. From June til September we talked EVERY single night for like 5 hours or so on the phone. (he lives about 3 hours from me). I really started falling for him. He’d always send really sweet text messages too. We started talking less in September-November, but still talked a fair amount, not as much and the texts messages stopped but that’s normal. Then in November we spent the BEST weekend of our lives together. He had like tears in his eyes, because thats how good and happy felt being with me. And I did too. We talked just as much until Xmas eve when he called me, and was saying how much he loved me, how perfect i was etc. And then all of sudden after that, he didn’t call me again and rarely responds to my texts, and has been flirting with other girls on twitter, and facebook using our inside jokes or saying really bitter things like "if you lose my attention for even a spilt second i am gone".
Anyways–he’s 25, I am 21. He doesn’t have a job, he lives at home, he doesn’t have a car, he’s in debt and overweight–but we really do click and I really do like him, a lot.

I don’t understand what I did? I am in law school, and work, support myself and I am training for a marathon. I am pretty nice and normal, but out of nowhere he basically like disappered after giving me this long drunken call about how much he loved me.

What did I do? Should I even still talk to him? he’s acting like a child right now, with his passive-agressive twitter tweets

Cut him! It could be any of the following:

- Commitment phobe. He got scared after dropping the "L Bomb".
- Game Player. He threw the bait, reeled you in and now he’s putting you on the back burner. Clear manipulation.
- Change of heart. He decided he wasn’t ready, not that into you, likes someone else, etc. etc.

Bottom line, he’s obviously not in the same space as you. You don’t deserve to invest time, emotion and attention on someone who isn’t doing the same for you.

My advice, turn the tables. Act like you don’t care and it’s not bothering you. Cut your contact with him to a minimum and don’t initiate anything. Make HIM work for your attention.
